I've had to work on Valentines Day. It's not so bad, really, so long as you're in the right mindset.

What mindset's the right one to deal with a dozen mushy couples and an equal number of depressed, single bar patrons?

Being grateful that you don't have to put any effort into planning a 'romantic night'. Knowing you don't have to get all dolled up and no one will care.

[ by 'all dolled up' she really means 'shaving your legs' but that's kind of tactless to publicly say ]

Of course they're all excuses, but with the right mindset one can believe anything.

Now if only the Lux would start accepting sweatpants as part of the dress code, I'd really be able to appreciate the freedom to not get dolled up. [ sigh ] You're right, though. I just have to take deep breaths and think of all the reasons I'm happy exactly where I am.

[ ... she's happy? After the past month happy seems kind of foreign. ]

[ there's a faint purring coming from the journal. karen is sitting with her cat in her lap and glossing over the pages when she sees claire's entry. ]

Come on, being single isn't the end of the world.
