attempt number fourteen ♓ (action) (dictated)

Jan 31, 2011 12:50

[ Claire has spent the last week in the gym every day, either with Lois or even all by herself if she'd rather not go, beating the hell out of the same punching bag. Granted, she's still not doing much damage, because three months is far from enough time to go all Karate Kid (no matter how many musical montages one is given) but it's pretty ( Read more... )

[Shiiit yeah snazzy workout clothes.

Lois smirks a little, her ponytail bouncing side to side as she reaches around to grab her own bottle and take a nice long drink. She'd have to be blind not to see the way Claire has been channeling stuff into their workouts, but... so has she, so it hasn't been something worth commenting on. They both get it, she figures, and she's still not sure how to put into words any of the things that might need to be said. It's not something that apologies could smooth over, and she still hated the fact that she was sure there were things she didn't remember that no one had told her. Details, even. And she wasn't about to press for them from the people who had been hurt in the process.]

Don't start getting cocky now, grasshopper.

[ It takes her a minute to respond because she's busy guzzling water like it's oxygen, but she finally pulls the bottle away from her mouth and screws the lid back on, setting it back on the floor. ] I'm not sure it counts as cocky if it's taken me three months to even get far enough to say I might be. I think that just qualifies as pathetic all around. I mean, there's got to be some kind of crash course for this stuff, right?

Sure there is. But you don't want to crash, you want to succeed. Stick with me on this.

[She sets her bottle down and grabs a seat, wrapping a towel around her shoulders.]

... I'm glad you were still up for lessons.

Maybe I'm missing a link here, but why wouldn't I still be up for them? [ If anything, the Isis incident just reinvigorated that latent desire to play hero. She'd watched all of the others rush into the fray, and she simply wasn't capable enough to make a difference if she had run in with them. Next time, she would be. ]

[Herp-a-derp derp. Have a Jono. He's not really the fisticuffs type, so he's just gonna be watching Claire. He recognizes the tiny blonde as the Fail!Sacrifice from the whole Isis incident.]

{They say repetition's th' key when yer trainin' like that.}

[ The telepathic voice catches her off guard and she jumps a little before she turns to look at him.

Jono. [ She blinks briefly, trying to bat down that surprise and awkwardness of not knowing what even to say. ] That's what I've been trying. If I repeat it anymore without the result changing, I'm pretty sure I'll officially be qualified for insanity.

[He nods, impressed that she even remembered his name, given the circumstances by which they'd become acquainted. He's so used to her reaction to his method of communication that he doesn't even flinch.]

{'Lo Claire.}

[Of course Jono feels the awkwardness himself, but he's so used to it that he doesn't even really notice it.]

{Maybe yer like me. So pigeon-holed by yer ability that y'can't do much more'n what y'were designed to. Or maybe not. 'M not sure 'ow it works, wherever you come from.}

[ She opens her mouth to ask about what he means by getting pigeon-holed but she stops short, pursing her lips in a thin line and sighing. More important things. ]

Yeah, about that whole ... ability thing. I know you do the mind-prying naturally and all, but let's just try and keep it in the mental ... plane ... thing. Okay?

[ kate, being a gym regular, is currently on a balancing beam. she's been watching claire for some time now, noting how tense her punches are. she never once sees the girl's healing factor in action, though.

after removing her eyes off claire, kate will lean backwards on the beam and gracefully flip backwards on it so she's supporting herself on her hands. ]

[ It takes her a minute to notice Kate, but she turns to look over her shoulder after a minute and catches her mid-gymnastics and it's enough to make her slowly lower her water bottle. ]

I'm guessing that's not just you showing off fancy gymnastic tricks.

[ her eyes flicker over claire and she quickly flips back so she's on her feet. she pushes the hair away from her face and gives her a lopsided smile. ]

The balance beam is pretty fun to work on, I find.

[ She nods a little, eying it briefly and then shifting her gaze back to Kate. ]

All the stunting I've done has been mat-work. Tucks, backtucks, handsprings. That kind of stuff. I've never tried it on a beam before -- how do you even figure out where to put your hands? I mean, what if you missed? It's gotta be hard to have someone spotting you when you're too far off the ground for them to do much good. [ For Claire, of course, this is no problem. But this chick is not indestructible.

... Probably. ]

[ She'd been engrossed enough in her own workout that she didn't notice him at first, but while her eyes scanned the room during her water break, she caught sight of him and ... well, damn. A small part of her wondered what the point of bothering to swing something that huge would be, but a bigger part of her was just impressed that he could.

Dropping her water bottle by her journal, she wandered closer, arms crossing anxiously as she grew nearer. Still, she kept her distance -- no reason to get in the range of cracking her head open. That'd just be embarrassing. ]

What is that thing?

None that I've seen. I'm gonna cross my fingers and hope that if any did, people have squashed them by now.
