When A Realtor Mom Comes In Handy

I've just finished putting on the $95-a-tube eye cream I bought today, courtesy of mom. She saw it somewhere and recommended it, then bought a Sephora gift card for me over my Vegas trip so I can purchase it. She was pretty sick afterwards, so we never went back to actually get the eye cream until today. She came this weekend to help me look at a ( Read more... )

Good luck getting the deal you're looking for! I think we've got our place picked out now as well. We may even try to get out of our lease and move earlier than planned... We found we have leaks in the walls, and water is seeping in, and we're worried about the resulting mold and such causing health problems. (And Jhen noted that she started getting sick about the time we moved.) According to California civil code, part of the definition of being habitable that a landlord must meat is that the exterior walls must be weatherproof and waterproof.

I was having allergy issues when I was living in family student housing, but they were aware of a mold problem and tried to fix it. It's definitely something you want checked out, and if you can use that to your advantage on getting out of the lease...

Been hearing a lot about a financial slowdown in the US, interest rate drops from this side of the pond. If it's as bad as it sounds really is from over here, you should get a good deal. There's that thing I read a while ago from a business paper "the person who most wants the deal is usually the one who comes off worse out of it".

If there is no one else interested in that condo, make the seller sweat a bit. :)

Interest rate already went down a bit here, but that's not all good news for us: The lower the interest rate is, the more people can afford to borrow and can buy higher priced houses (mom said). The price range we're looking at weren't affected by all the lower-priced foreclosures as much, but it's also not readily available in the better school districts and neighborhoods. We were also trying not to have to borrow a jumbo loan, so we're trying to work with that range plus the down payment we can come up with along with Odi's parents' help. There's talk that the jumbo loan limit would go up, so we want to get a place before more folks can afford these prices ( ... )
