we made jack o' lanterns! I've never done it before, it was fun! frustrating at first, because I'm a perfectionist and not particularly artistic (except with words and food), but I got the hang of it after a while (it helped that there were knives involved :-P). I also didn't like getting my hands messy, but I got over that (having the adolescent ( Read more... )

Neato!
I learned yesterday that one can buy fake CARVEABLE pumpkins at Michaels. I can't decide how I feel about this.

This is not that unlike those kits with pudding, crushed oreos, bags of gummy worms and teeny flower pots over at Costco.

I think a couple generations of leaving fun kid stuff to Daycares and not having enough time (with all that running to sports practice) is taking its toll.

what the hell are you supposed to do with that? actually, I think the fake pumpkins might be similar to fake Christmas trees, especially given that they are carveable.

because nobody remembers the recipe of some pudding, some gummy worms, and some oreos after you've trampled a herd of elephants over, mixed, put in a flower pot, and stuck fake flowers in the top of it. Sometimes I grate, 'cause we can't do anything any more, unless it has been premade into a kit.

Awesome pumpkins!

We will do ours soon- if we put 'em out too early around here, the squirrels get 'em!

MMMMM, pumpkin seeds. Old Bay sounds WONDERFUL! But DS has braces thingies in his mouth this year. I wonder how he'll deal. I should hold off on the Old Bay till I see- he'll take it as a traiterous act if I coat something in Old Bay and then he can't eat it!

When I toast 'em, I've done sugar and either ginger or cardamom. Grammy is stil lurking in the back of my head somewhere (:

the kid-thing has braces and she didn't have a problem as far as I could tell; she took two ziplock baggies home, in theory to share with her parents and sister, but who knows if she even told them about them? :-P
