Oh wow, this is amazing. You've done a fantastic job of showing the change in Merlin - the way his thoughts trail off and his logic changes, calling Arthur "the Prince" and Gwaine "Sir" - it all adds up to be quite momentous but you've managed to keep it feeling smooth and organic when it could easily have gotten heavy-handed. It's surprisingly horrifying to hear him think like a 'perfect' servant. It kind of makes you realize just how unusual and special he really is! The reactions of others have been spot on and really interesting as well, and you did a great job letting us see a bit of their perspective without leaving Merlin's POV (until we swap to Arthur of course). I'm excited to read the rest, I was just so impressed with this bit that I had to leave you some love before I forgot.

Someone recced this recently, and I was intrigued. I'm glad I've started reading it. I love how you've handled the shift in Merlin's character in this first chapter, not to mention the reaction blooming within Arthur.
