grace hopper conference

I'm thinking of asking my boss if they have the budget to send me to this year's Grace Hopper Conference. I think some of you have gone before -- do you think it is educational and worthwhile? If there is no value career-wise I doubt my company will pay for me to go, but if there is value they might send me and potentially the other two female ( Read more... )

I'm thinking about it. I've never been before. I'm not sure if I would fit in though, it seems dominated by research people, either from industry or academia. I'm "just a tester" working at a small startup.

I doubt my company will pay for it. I'm still shocked they're sending me to a local conference in May.

Meant to respond earlier... I went last year, and as Google was one of the sponsors, it felt like a networking and marketing event to me (and generally, it felt like a mating dance between soon-to-be college grads and companies looking to hire). There are a lot of talks, both based on research and experiences as a woman in computer science, plus lots of Q&A panels. However, I didn't really find the talks I went to very enlightening (how much can you cover in an hour?), but perhaps I chose the wrong talks ( ... )
