Assassin's Creed, you suck.

Dec 12, 2009 15:09

So last night I got tired of playing Assassin's Creed, decided that the work-to-reward ratio was very off, and decided to go watch the rest on YouTube.

As it turns out, that was an excellent idea, because I would have felt even more cheated had I kept playing!

I had mixed opinions after playing Assassin's Creed. I didn't like the Animus setup at all, and would have preferred it to be set solely in the ancient time-period the game used.

My favourite aspect? The world and historical setting. It was jaw-droppingly gorgeous. But the Animas crap made me lose interest fast. The plot was just something I tried to ignore so I could have happy stabby times.

Yeah, that's basically where I stand. And I really liked the freerunning, but for god's sake, LET ME DO MORE WITH IT.

It made me loathe to spend money on II, so I haven't. I've got Dragon Age: Origins and Mass Effect to last me till New Year, and then Mass Effect II will eat all my time.

Also, wasn't Case 5 of PW made specially for the DS release? I can swear I read that somewhere but I'm not sure. Maya had more cases for development. If the 'made' case is true, Ema was a fill-in. Interesting, but like you said she reminds you of Maya.

I'M GONNA FIND A VON KARMA ICON, JUST FOR YOU.

It makes sense that it would have been, it's the only case that utilizes the DS gimmick.

There's nothing more enjoyable than doing the same mission without any variety over and over :|

I found Altier's american accent kind of jarring considering the historic setting. Well, IT LOOKED PRETTY, that's the only positive I can think of.

The ending was pretty sucky aswell. So many games these days have such abrupt endings... BAH

YES

YES

I COULD NOT STAND ALTAIIR'S ACCENT IN AMONGST ALL THE OTHER MIDDLE-EASTEN ACCENTS

Did they figure the player couldn't relate to him if he was too brown or too foreign? Ughghhg

I have a sneaking suspicion that the animus stuff was there because it NEEDS MORE AMERICA

Speaking strictly as a Backseat Gamer when it comes to most all open-world stuff, AC2 is much better in many ways. Some impressions I wrote up.

AC fell down the stairs in a number of awkward, weird ways. AC2 still has the same core gameplay mechanics, but everything is roughly two to three times better, if not more. Cheesy, absolutely, but they finish up Altair's story and actually give him personality in this one. If you're willing to roll with the punches* and embrace the ridiculous story, well then friend, it's a pretty awesome time. Malik can marry me.

*the punches being the Dan Brown aspects of the story

They wrap it up? So like, if I play it I get an ending? You promise? And Mailk can come too?

I don't want to spoil anything too much, but Altair is definitely present in one manifestation or another in 2, and while Malik isn't (as far as I've seen), you find out a little of what happens to him. Same with the Templar woman from Acre. School's made me put it on hold for the past week and I'm just shy of the end, but so far it does answer some questions.

Oh, AC. I got so bored of that game, so fast. The free-running is only good for so long and I am not exactly a patient person, so I mostly tried to assassinate people and botched it in one way or another, and then had to swordfight a zillion guards. And then went to another city and repeated the whole damn process argh. With lots of having to walk my horse everywhere in between.

Seriously. Did they have Equestrian Speed Limits back then or what.

Justin adored it, though I don't think he's managed to complete it yet. But he tends to write his own story on top of the gameplay--I caught him declaring "I'm BATMAN~" a few times as he had Altair jump around Acre or wherev.

I guess that's better than me. Most of my declarations were more to the tune of "DON'T YOU ARROW ME, MOTHERFUCKERRRRRR"

BUT A TOTALLY VALID FEELING. THEY ARROWED A LOT. :|

I would have liked AC more if Altaiir was a girl. Or if like. In AC2 you could play as a girl. A bitchin' renaissance girl. Who had knives in her push-up bra.
