And fuck Tarantino fanboys, too.

I meant to write a full review after I calmed down some anyway, but the anon who commented on the other post was pretty much a perfect springboard:

You tell them, girl! I mean, who cares if the movie is extremely well-shot and acted! If I feel inconfortable watching it it must be a bad movie! Fuck art! Fuck quality! Fuck expression! I want ( Read more... )

You know, this is why I don't turn on anonymous commenting. Judgmental douchebags too scared to admit to their half-baked, frothing-crazy ideas even with their imaginary internet name.

From the sounds of it, I'd 100% agree with you about this movie.

Eh, sometimes anons have just swung by to say something nice or neutral, so I don't see any reason to disable it just yet. I log IPs so I can just ban people who get too abusive.

Under normal circumstances I'd ask myself "Well maybe that was the point?" but it just so obviously is not the point - there really is no point. And it isn't in that nihilistic "everyone in the world is a terrible person" sort of way because 1) Tarantino doesn't make those kinds of movies, 2) There's never any indication that this is the case and in fact the movie kind of hangs on your desire to watch Nazis die and 3) That would be preachy Oscar-bait, ironically.

I liked a lot of the movie, but it helped a lot to pretend that Tarantino was being deeper than he actually was.

Basically, I fanwanked a lot of shit about it. Like "Shosanna reacted like that not because she had any tender feelings for him, but because she was fucked-up and had a deathwish that couldn't wait another few minutes and for some fucked-up reason wanted him to be the one to kill her."

See, if I believed that I just wouldn't respect the character very much, and then I would have to and explain that away by convincing myself that Tarantino never meant for me to like her.

I mean, you could argue that the movie is about how sadism and violence has nothing to do with a Nazi uniform, but just because you could does not make it true, I think.

Yeah, I know I was making shit up, I was just trying to find some redeeming value in it, because I was cranky that I'd gone into the theaters expecting the snappy over-the-top-but-fun Jews-killing-Nazis movie that had been advertised in the trailers and not gotten it.

No, I'm definitely cranky about that too. Goddamn, I would have preffered if the whole movie was just Brad Pitt talking in that ridiculous accent.

Hey, long time lurker. I dont usually comment but this post got me out of hiding. You know I really dont care for gruesome or violent movies but I can overlook those aspects of a film if they have other redeeming qualities or the violence is effective and helps the plot along (ex: children of men, which made me cry so hard at all the suffering but the movie made a very strong point. and the violence never felt gratuitous) this is also why I can never watch shit like Hostel. I really loved pulp fiction and kill bill and I was looking forward to this mainly for brad pitt and cause the character of shosanna sound like the femme fatale type of character that tarantino likes to write and (usually) does decently enough. But after reading this....before when you said you hated I was surprised cause several other people on my flist loved it, particularly shosanna but you pretty much highlighted some things that would have DEFINITELY angered me had I went and saw it in theaters. So what I'm saying is way to go for writing this. It may seem to ( ... )

EXACTLY.

Most of the other people who died (even one of the NAZIS) had a more dignified and heroic death than she did, and hers was just... I hated it, and it wasn't even like it was a surprise either.

I expect I disagree with a lot of people, but what can you do...

And thanks for de-lurking to chime in!

yeah I notice you tend to disagree with the hordes on fandomsecrets alot, heh. though I tend to usually feel along the same lines you do (just dont have the patience or time to reply to people). I largely avoid the place now though. Place is full of dickheads.

that is fucked UP.

and hopefully I'll pop in more. Since I stopped being a creepy stalker shy.
