I totally agree - and I'm glad they didn't deem her beyond salvation, and I desperately hope this game succeeds and this becomes the new Lara forevermore, and 2011 will mark the year everybody in the industry started growing up.

I remember playing the original Tomb Raider when it came out. Dad got it for me as a present, and I loved moving around stuff, jumping over it, cursing when I missed the platform in some underground cave that had frozen over? [it's been ages for me]. I also liked the fact she was a female lead, because hey. I'm a girl and it's nice to play as one.

Then I saw the fandom stuff and fanboys and yeeeeah.

If they're going to make a proper go of designing their character, I'm willing to give it a go... depending on price.

I still hold a lot of love for the Tomb Raider games both new and old because at their core they were good platformers/exploration games and I loooove a good exploration game. Especially if I can platform as a woman. Unfortunately the marketing (those ugly cg renders) eventually turned the franchise into a joke and even with the new Crystal Dynamics trilogy they couldn't quite shake the old image of Lara as that chick with the boobs ( ... )
