Warcraft Ladystats

So it's really no secret that Warcraft is a giant bucket or race/genderfail, but I did little stat-analyses and character breakdowns for a couple of other games and series, so I decided I'd do one for the Warcraft universe as well ( Read more... )

Chris Metzen and Richard Knaack are really horrible writers in general, and they're the driving forces behind character creation. Until they go away and stop being the Word of God, the situation won't change much.

Discussion note: I'd say Maiev is also important for her proximity to/affect on male characters. Her whole storyline is that she's chasing (and eventually kills) Illidan. That's the only reason she's in the Lore.

Snap, how did I miss that one?

Distracted by her shiny owl hat, no doubt.

And her superduper weapon.

(I'm still hoping against hope for the Wardens to be the next hero class. No hero class in Cata makes me do this: D:< and >:|)

I'm totally with you there. Wardens are a natural choice and everything! Come on, bend that lore 'til it breaks!

I would like to point out that Garona is not half-human. That was retconned to halfdraenei/halforc since there were no humans on Draenor when she was conceived and born. Because the humans of Azeroth hadn't seen a draenei, they just *thought* she was half human.

Curse you, Garona's lineage! Ever-changing and impossible!

For my purposes though, I was really just tallying the characters who are definitely not any kind of "pretty race."

I wonder how often WoW passes step 2 of the Bechdel Test.

Um... I don't think WoW does visibly... But Warcraft III did - Shandris and Tyrande spring to mind.

Ah, well, I've never played the other Warcraft games, I'll have to see if I can find some info on whether they were discussing male characters or not.

While I don't really have anything intelligent to add to this, I did want to say that it was an interesting read! I do feel like most of the female NPCs I encounter are healer/caster classes and it annoyed me that so few are badass armed-to-the-teeth warrior types. Maybe that was the subconcious reason why I went with a female ret pally... :3

Oh I know this feeling. I'd probably have rolled a warrior by now except that I couldn't tank if my life depended on it.

There are these marvelous trees called Arms and Fury, you know. Granted, I tanked largely because I was a terrible Arms warrior (yes, I know, this shouldn't be possible...), but still.

True - at the same time I am also a terribly lazy player and therefore drawn to whichever class will most enable alt-tabbing (my druid is great for this).
