(and to those of you who've watched me go step by step through all of these trailers I offer my sincerest apologies)

You know, the Fantastic Four movie might just not totally suck, after all.

They've released the final trailer with SmorgaLucasbord III and it goes a little Somethin' Like ThisBut what's REALLY COOL, tho, and seems to understand ( Read more... )

You know, I never followed the Fantastic Four. So I'm not too terribly invested in this movie. So, only two points from me:

1) Is it just me, or have they done something weird to Sue Storm? The Invisible Woman, admittedly, is a role that would have been wasted on Jessica Alba, but, nevertheless ...

and,

2) Wow. I really am a geek, but the spot of Jonhnny leaving the roof? Chills, man.

Sue has always been a hard one for everyone who's written her to get a handle on. She really doesn't even come into her own as a character even in the comic series until she and Reed have had Franklin, their first child. Only two people, Darwyn Cooke in a one-shot Spider-Man story and Mark Waid, the series' recently departed writer, seemed to have a good handle on Sue that wasn't the "fragile flower" take that most of the book's writers (including Stan "the Man" who created her) approached her with and he allowed her to be more than just "the one who always got captured" (kind of like Daphne on Scooby Doo). Sue was an dedicated stay-at-home soccer-mom type, but one who was always on top of things, and that really seemed to make some sense given the relationship she had with each of the men in her life, for whom she was a surrogate mother anyway (Johnny's her irresponsible younger brother, whom she always looked after, Ben is the archetypical grumpy bachelor who hates his life, who she has a deep affection for, and Reed is the absent ( ... )

On second read-through I think you're referring to Sue's force fields, which have, actually, always been there... They just have her using them aggressively (which is something else they've had her doing lately too, in the books).

I also had hassles at one point with Sue, but actually, what is wrong with her being a soccer mom? Hell, she never wanted superpowers in the first place.

The new film looks cool. I've been an FFfan since the late 1960s, and I'm amazed to actually be looking forward to it.
