"The Spooky Stuff One Finds On YouTube" Dept.:According to Joseph Stefano (who only recently just passed away) when he and Alfred Hitchcock finished the final draft of their script for PSYCHO, Hitchcock kind of sighed and looked sad. Stefano asked him what was wrong. Hitchcock said "Now I have to make the Goddamned thing". For him the pleasure in ( Read more... )

A few years ago, I was doing a social experiment Using Psycho as an example, not only the classic Hitchcock version but the remade shot for shot 90's version. I asked everyone, which version was better, they all said the color version was and that is when I lost all hope in humanity as a whole. it just goes to show flash will over take substance on some minds at all times. i had cross words with them trying to explain the way hitchcock who without color used the darkness as a way of making the film more suspencful & scary at the same time. after this I showed them north by Northwest....don't ask....

Oh man - I gotta ask.

What did they say about North By Northwest - and are you glad you didn't show them VERTIGO?

basically they just didn't understand how or WHY Roger was being chased across the country.. they kept asking how could this schmuck be mistaken for who the gang wanted? and as for Vertigo , if I showed them that their heads would have exploded

That is such a cool trailer. it's the jaunty music that makes it, I think.

I've just noticed that the interior of the house has a really similar design to my auntie Sadie's. Which is built on the Irish equivalent of an Indian burial ground. Eeee!

The whole "Dancing merily to the abbetoir" thing was a BIIIIG Hitchcockian motif used in a lot of his promotional material.

I wish they made trailers like that now.

No no - people need to have the movie in the trailer now.

Hitchcock "hosted" a bunch of trailers- I seem to remember one that he did at sea for Lifeboat. This is definitely the best of them, though!

I've seen the LIFEBOAT trailer, but I agree in that this is the one that I think uses the Hitchcock "persona" to best effect.

When he notices something behind teh shower curtain, it really comes as a surprise - and the gag that she's screaming because he's standing there get slost in the sweet sweet Bernard Herriman string-shrieks.
