And now for something completely different...

Or maybe not.

"These Are A Few Of My Favourite Things" Dept.:

This is a rather inventive minute and a half bumper (to fill time between shows for when there weren't enough ads sold) that ran for about a year on Cartoon Network. It's so weird to see Josie, Melody and Alexandra off of their familiar character designs stolen from Dan DeCarlo animation ( Read more... )

comics, dan decarlo, stuff one finds on youtube, josie and the pussycats, tv joy!!!

all i can say is wow... just wow... soem of tyhe designs were quite clever and seemed to harken back as well but as we both know they still ruin Dan Decarlo's legend.

I just wish that ACG would put out some kind of Essentials-styled b&w collections or something of the sort. The Best Of Dan DeCarlo's JOSIE (with 500 pages of art & stories and pin-ups), or of Bob Bolling's LITTLE ARCHIE, or of Joe Edwards LIL JINX or what have you. It's, unfortunately, understood that the original creators of these series are never going to get the recognition they deserve from the one work-for-hire company that refused to so much as allow it's creators to sign their names to the books until the 1980's, but people should at least be able to buy the stuff and enjoy the work they did. It's not like it would cost them anything.

For that matter - a mess of HARVEY comics collections along the same line would kick ass as well (all that Warren Kremer and Ernie Colón stuff just waiting to be seen again).

well, you'd think ACG would do that as it's the "smart" thing to do but as we both know this is unlikely to ever happen it would certainly be nice though. Dans inks flowed off the page and his art was just gorgeous to look at.

as for Harvey, a good friend Mike Curtis used to write for them in the 70's/80's, he now runs Shanda Fantasy Arts. so yeah it'd be nice to see some collections of their classic stuff as long as there are no rights issues with possible new owners etc

ACG is the last of the big companies to completely forgoe anything but the whims of it's management team (and people in this industry tend to forget what their sales and print numbers are like - apparently unless all your characters are wearing their shorts over their pants, you don't count as one of the "Big Two"). They apparently feel that they're making enough money with their grandfathered deal at the supermarket and drug store check out racks as opposed to the chain bookstores like B&N or Chapters up here ( ... )

Weeeeeee! More Josie & Pussycats! I've heard the punk version done before, by a lot of girl punk bands.

You can see how that would seem like an original idea to a pack of three Punk girls who watched teh show as kids.

I've just discovered, as of yesterday, the strange world of "cuddlecore" and "twee pop". As an old-school "bubblegum music" fan, I just thought that stuff was called "alternative" - which shows something of the old fogey I feel I've become.

Somedays you just feel so "almost 40". You'll know what I mean soon enough.
