This was how I felt as I was updating our class countdown at the UP-PGH central block lobby this morning. When I was done with securing the day's numerals in place, the countdown read:
you don't know me and we will probably never meet. i googled "UP college of medicine" and your blog came up. reading your post just made me smile inside.
i graduated ten years ago from UPCM and am a practicing internist in the US. your bright-eyed optimism and eagerness is refreshing. I remember when I was so young and optimistic myself.
I was so burned out after internship that after graduation in 1999, i decided to forgo medicine for a while and joined a choir. We spent 8 months touring the US and Canada in 2000-2001. It changed my life. (It took away my focus on medicine, which may or may not have been a good thing. C'est la vie.)
Good luck on the rest of internship and your career. When you get burned (burnt?) out, reread these blog entries. I hope your passion for medicine and healing will be revived.
