Eeee! I also love girls and octopuses! I particularly like the composition of the second one, so clever and it will make such a good card.
You draw tentacles beautifully, but the eyes and body of the octopus are a little off. The eyes aren't really on stalks, but rather set into bulges off the body: http://www.saczoo.com/3_kids/1_australia/images/20_octopus.jpg And the tentacles don't come straight off the body; there is a fleshy area under the body that they are attached to.
But I'd love to see more octopuses from you guys. <3
Creative liberties? Gee! I thought you were portraying a genetically modified octopus and its mistress in an habitat on Mars on the moon, where they could look like that and the low gravity would make it possible for that usually limp tentacle to go up that high. Works fine for me either way. Good art.
Awww APE. Y'know the entire time I lived in S.F. I never knew about things like this, but the minute I move I realize there are so many conventions to be had up there- I misses it. :( Well optimism. Maybe I'll stumble onto a satisfactory amount of money to buy a plane ticket.
Great inks on the first illustration- so crisp, so clean! The line width and variation really works on the first one- perhaps a more exaggerated difference in line widths on the second piece would've made both girl and octo stand out more. They kinda seem to muddle together as it is.
In january I went for a few days in Paris, and visited the "Palais de la Découverte", where there was an exhibition on animal intelligence. And there was this octopus in a tank, they fed it a crab in a jar and the octopus first had to go through a tiny hole in a glass wall across the tank, and then unscrew the lid of the jar to catch the crab...
And then it bites the crab with its beak and injects its saliva do dissolve the flesh, that it will later suck entirely.
It's really incredible to see those creatures move.

Yeeeeeeah, I kinda knew it was a bit off /:) Er, uh, I was taking creative liberties?
(which means not drawing with any reference! I AM SO ABOVE PORTRAYING THE LAWS OF NATURE)

I'm so envious of people who can draw without reference.
