Hello WWW friends. I need some career advice.
Here are the facts:
1. I want to get into Museum/Collections/Archives work.
2. My CV reads: MA (Ethnomusicology with a Canadian History bent), BMus (Theory/Comp), BA (English, Can. Lit); piano teacher for 5 years, charity thrift store manager, 6 mos, choir accompanist/music arranger/ sometimes songwriter

1)I think you should email the archivist lady and tell her about yourself and what you want and ask if she has any advice/would like to meet, and then give a follow up phone call after a few days (or maybe a week) if you don't hear back.
2)If anything, only go for a part-time crap job, because if you are working full-time it is harder to apply/interview for other jobs.
3)I don't think it really hurts to call on the higher-ups for advice before you look into volunteering. As a person with three university degrees, you should not sell yourself short. Volunteering is nice and all, but it is nicer when you are retired or loaded. You obviously have proven year in and year out that you are a qualified individual who is capable of learning how to do a job and do it well.
