It wasn't hearing that Tim Riggins was in hospital that surprised Coach; it was hearing it from Sam Jameson. Despite having chatted with the girl - the daughter of one of Coach's closest college buddies - he hadn't been on the ball enough to realise she was dating the youngest Riggins brother. For some reason, he felt it vital to harbour a protectiveness over her because she was his friend's daughter... and those Riggins boys...
Coach nodded to the doctor who had admitted Tim Riggins and thanked him for his time. He pressed his lips together as he moved away from the reception desk and made his way back to the waiting room. Sam had apparently called him in a panic when she wasn't sure who else she should call beside Jason Street when Tim's older brother and guardian, Billy, wasn't answering his cell phone. To be honest, Coach was relieved the girl had called him, even if he technically wasn't Tim's football coach anymore... he still cared about each and every lad he had coach, Tim Riggins included.
He approached Sam in the waiting room and after a brief moment of hesitation, sat down beside her and folded his hands in front of him. "You alright there?" he asked her.
