Book Meme
The Big Read reckons that the average adult has only read 6 of the top 100 books they've printed.

1) Look at the list and bold those you have read.
2) Italicise those you intend to read.
3) Underline the books you LOVE.4) Reprint this list in your own LJ (if you are that bored ( Read more... )

twice the fun? pann_da_bear June 26 2008, 21:57:15 UTC
I counted 32 I'd read so far tho as someone later said, some were "forced reading" for school, but i tagged them all. So about twice as many as you. Of course, there are some kinds of repeats, and also Harry Potter (strangely near the top) has 7 big books, so it's really more than 100.

I guess it depends on whether you are satisfied with only 17 or if you just read, but not these ones.

So, when's a good time to check out Montreal? Pride is in August? I can maybe get hotel and train dealio. Or drive.

I like that city and want to see more of it!

Hamlet and Life of Pi are my favorites from this list.

I've read over half but some of them were forced selections.

When I look again, I see a bunch on here that I was supposed to read but never did. Good thing is that when things are Big-L literature, they do tend to be a good read (not always though).

Funny too how for several, I've had to teach them, and you get to know them very well. Macbeth is so much cleared when you have to explain what it means a lot. A fave of mine over Hamlet, tho a lot is cause I've never taught that.

I do have to teach Chrysalids and Lord of the FLies this year tho, Shoudl be interesting. Keep reading, huh?

Yes...funny though...reading now versus reading as a teenager gives a completely different flavor to them.

I've taught 5, 10 and 22 with gusto. Couldn't stand them as a kid but I love them now. I think it takes age (or maturity)to appreciate some of these books.
I'm teaching All the King's Men again this year but most of them don't get much out of it. I teach it after Great Gatsby so a few get it...

I loved Lord of the Flies as a kid. It's the only reason I'd agree to teach 9th grade if I was asked to.

Have you no shame? Why is Adam's genius masterpiece #25 instead of #1? Has that great tome of travel across the expanse of space taught us nothing? :P

Well ... Adams' work is brill, for sure, but I didn't create this list. I also really enjoyed Dirk Gently and the other 2 Hitchhiker books. A fave for sure, but where do you stop. Also, no Asimov, and he's fricken brilliant. And no L.Ron either ... hmm ... are the Scientologists losing some grip?
