gotta get up and try | claire/kate | pg13joyyjpgJune 1 2013, 19:56:55 UTC
It isn’t easy.
Aaron doesn’t understand why his mommy brought a stranger home and told him that she was mommy too. He watches her with keen suspicion and runs to Kate with every scraped knee, every nightmare. Claire can’t blame him - he doesn’t know her and, as much as it hurts to admit, she doesn’t really know him either.
It isn’t easy, but she believed it would be.
Sometimes she looks in the bathroom mirror and sees herself then, a distorted, watery reflection in a muddy creek. Sometimes she forgets she isn’t there anymore. She wakes up in the middle of the night, screaming and sweating and shaking. She doesn’t react well to sudden movements or someone coming up behind her unexpectedly - Kate learned that the hard way, and it wouldn’t have been so bad if Aaron hadn’t seen the whole thing. She doesn’t know how to live in this world anymore, and some days she wonders if it's worth the effort to try
