I know, I'm so sad about Cas. And angry at the boys (namely Dean) who wouldn't listen to him when he tried to explain. I don't really think it could have been avoided, though. Someone had to take down Raphael, and the boys were too busy with Eve for the majority of the season so they didn't see Raphael as a real threat.
I think I would have perferred it your way, too. A blaze of glory would have been acceptable, especially if it got it through Dean's head that Cas was doing this all for him. Idiot.
I can't wait to get into s7, just so I can be caught up and be in on the coversation. And then write all the fix-it fic. XDD
It was really upsetting. But I do think the arc was handled pretty well, letting slip little things here and there about Cas's plan until the big reveal in 6.20. So my issue isn't so much with the season as a whole, just that it went against so much character growth for both Dean and Cas how it finally went down. In the past, Dean has all these moments with Sam when he says something along the lines of "You're not a little kid anymore, and I was wrong to put you under thumb, and I'm gonna listen to you from now on." Why doesn't that extend to Cas? He didn't even hear him out.
I mean, I do think that Dean had a point in saying that opening Purgatory was a bad idea and that they should find another way, but he didn't even listen to Cas, who has been working on the problem for much longer than Dean has and must have explored every other option. And since when is working with Crowley such a damning thing? They've all done it, because despite the fact that he's a demon and even when they worked with him they didn't trust him, he
