I want to be able to have our entire house act as one giant, industrial workplace. It won't be the comfiest of places, and half our shit will be covered in grease about 99% of the time, but I would like it a lot.

DO IT. You can be one of our room mates, if you can live in a cold climate. I imagine people are going to be sleeping in the tub and shit though.

YES. We do have a small chimnea or whatever in the back yard, and during the summer there's a tent constantly pitched there. But I suppose you could do the same in the basement.
