Isn't The Black Abyss scanlating it? they've been doing a good job of it from what I've seen. D:

Hello there~

I think this is a question a lot of people are probably wondering in their heads, so I'm happy to answer. We need no disrespect to The Black Abyss; we have nothing against BA's speed, dedication, and motivation. However, it's natural that their translation is going to be a bit misleading because they use a Chinese translation of the Japanese. Any translation that goes through more than one filter is going to be a bit skewed. We feel that this is presenting a problem due to what astrialite has explained in the post.

The only way to help clear up confusion is to retranslate :) A lot of us at inmeliora love Pandora Hearts, so we don't mind redoing the work that BA has done. We also use Japanese raws that we scan ourselves, and so we translate directly from the Japanese. We want to produce the most accurate translation as we can, and in the highest quality, because every good story deserves the best (in my opinion ( ... )

I have a question before heading to the comm

As much as I am interested in translation, I've never taken part of a translation group, and I really am not confident in my English...
I suppose those can be covered by the training and proof reading...?

but, I'm also starting school from January, and I'm not too sure as to how much time it'll take from me...

So yeah... I don't know how helpful I can be, but will you still be willing to accept a person like that...?

and never mind me if you already have someone else volunteering to work for the position...

I'm guessing you're interested in the translator position? If it's English you're worried about, it's okay, the proofreaders can correct any grammatical errors. :) Your English sounds perfectly understandable to me, don't worry~ It's just as long as your Japanese is good enough. And on that note, how's your education in Japanese? Or are you a native?

Mmm, we can't really judge based on your ambiguous amount of free time... But there's still some time until January, if you want to try helping something until then. Just volunteering for a chapter can be greatly helpful too. ^^;

So basically, we're going to need some more info from you for now, so get back to us on that. :)

Should've been more clear, sorry 8D;;

Yes, I'm interested in the translator position, and I'm a native! Though I've been living in Canada for most of my life, Japanese is my first language... and, well... it developed far more than my English due to speaking (family), listening (anime), and reading (manga) all the time, ahaha...

I'm really not sure about January, since it's my first time... but if a chapter or two will be fine, I'll be happy to help!!

I suppose I could try filling out the application form...!

Looking for cleaners, hmmmm? How are the scans you've got? I love cleaning images, but I'm still figuring out how to fix excessively blurry binding bits and such. So... I have to go to bed soon but here, have an example of the kind of stuff I can do within 5 or 10 minutes, and tomorrow or something I'll give you an example of what I can do for the binding, if that sort of thing would be required. I can also proofread, though I'm not sure how I would go about giving an example of that.

Anyways! Preliminary examples, cause if you don't want me or if you have pretty good scans, I don't need to worry about redrawing and all that.

Before and after and just for good measure, dealing with text instead of blur... before and after.

HERP DERP DERP REPOSTED BECAUSE I UPLOADED AN HALF-CLEANED VERSION OF THAT FIRST IMAGE. I'm so cool. 8D

Hey there.

I PMed you asking for your email address :) because I have to still send you some practice pages so I can see what you can do compared to what I teach newcomers and if I need to teach you anything else. You did a good job on both, either way, and for good measure, it's pretty impossible to fix the blurry parts unless you redraw it... which no one wants to do. Unless there is some sort of amazing cool way I don't know about yet :|

And for good measure, about proofreading versus photoshop; I've only been scanlating for a little over a year now, so how long you've been working with photoshop really doesn't matter :) If you want to proofread, we'll give you a test (when we make it), but we'd much rather have another cleaner at this point.

Last, do you want to typeset, too, or just clean?

AND our scans are sexy quality. No gutter, no blur :) Just ridiculously huge.

Jesus christ, that's some crazy blur. Personally I wouldn't even bother with that, unless it was a page with a simple redraw... Not worth the time or effort. If you're actually working on a chapter like that, good luck.
And yeah, like asabiesa said, our scans are totally flat. :]

XD Oh no, I was going to try it but got distracted/annoyed and someone else found better scans. Thank god. But hooray for flat scans!

Never get myself into any of the Pandora Hearts discussion, since I just come in, grab the raw and go off. Though, I think I did see BA recruiting for raw provider of Pandora Hearts over at MangaHelpers, so guess they actually want to make it more accurate as well...^_^"

If I'm not already doing the translations for 15 series all at once right now, I might've applied, since I'm actually interested in translating Pandora Hearts, but...guess I'm overworked, so can't do... ^_^"

I didn't see them recruiting, but good for them if they are :) If their translation quality goes up, perhaps we won't bother~

Good luck with your 15 series haha...that's gotta be difficult <3
