Summary: Season Five AU The war in heaven is over. Gabriel, heartsick and bitter in the wake of so much death, chooses to leave, but family never really lets you go. Dragged back into Heaven, he is punished for his desertion; Michael binds his grace, strips him of his power, rank, and even his name. Now Abaddon, Gabriel is cast into the pit to guard Lucifer’s cage until the Apocalypse comes and he has his chance to regain all that was taken from him. And the price? The Righteous Man, raised from Hell and turned into the perfect soldier to be used in Heaven’s war. It should be simple. Instead he gets Dean.
Now, having lost everything he’s had and everything he’s gained, Gabriel is left with a choice between love and forgiveness with no guarantee of either.

This was the opening scene and I really loved the imagery of the angels in their natural forms, with no concept of up or down or sideways. I tried to get that in the piece, along with a bit of artistic license towards the angels' appearances. The gold one is Gabriel, with four faces (dragon, eagle, ox, and lion) and six wings. The red are cherubim, which combined the descriptions of the cherubim and seraphim from the book of Isaiah, all wheels and eyes and only two wings. The blue are, well, I don't actually know what the blue are beyond that they'd be a lower rank, perhaps powers or principalities.
This piece was inspired from a scene towards the end of the fic, where Gabriel ends up claiming Dean as a vessel upon escaping Death. There was a description shortly before that where Gabriel is able to see Lucifer's true self overlaid on the human vessel that Lucifer wears and I used that concept for this; Dean's body, with Gabriel's true self overlaying it.
