In this election, the terrible stereotype americans have had to deal with the past years was struck in a big way. Staying up 'till dawn was well worth the trouble - the political science of change and development was way more interesting than the junk and drama of previous elections.
Eh. http://verix.livejournal.com/640759.html?thread=3879415#t3879415 more or less sums up how worried I am about prop 8. The important thing is we made history tonight, and we have a President and two houses of Congress that are ready to get in there and start cleaning up this mess.
I have always been extremely patriotic on a state level. It's been hard to be patriotic on a federal level recently because A) the far right has more or less hijacked the concept of "patriotism" into "votes Republican" and B) Bush has been President for eight years now. :( But no matter how fucked up the country has been, I have always deeply, truly loved New Mexico. Now, after the historical evening tonight has been, it's...I...it's like I feel that way for the country as a whole again, and it's kind of a weird feeling, because I'm definitely not used to it.
Congratulations for being there when history was made, dragon.
You're just mad because it prevents herms from marrying anyone at all. ^^
Don't think you can try to hitch up with another herm, either, since that would constitute "double homosexuality," which I think still carries the death penalty in Texas and Louisiana.
