I just finished Anthem by Ayn Rand.

Lame. Lame. Lame.

It's like 1984 combined with Objectivism.

It's the message of Fountainhead with none of the complexity or intrigue.

It's Howard Roark with no admirable qualities.

It's the mock Dominque, with added narcissism and Katherinesque qualities.

It's 100 pages of pure sermon.

Lame.

I often reccoment reading anthem as an intro to ayn rand for that exact reason. I thought it was more like the giver than 1984...but yet, still combined with Objectivism. However, you have to admit, there are plenty of pages of the fountainhead that were pure sermon, I almost threw up. The reason it's such a long book is because she restates the obvious constantly. That's my only critique of the fountainhead, considering it's one of my favorite books. But still, ayn rand has a habit of stating the obvious, and drilling it into our heads like we're stupid enough to not get it the first time. I agree with why you say that anthem is like a simplified fountainhead, but I think it's still a good book nonetheless.

True, Fountainhead got preachy...but it at least had a plot aside from the sermons. But yeah, I can see your point about how Anthem is short, therefore reducing on the repetitive preachiness!
