I get the impression that this style was (is?) more common in the areas SW of Hudson bay. I've seen pictures of the old style really long Alaskan style shoes, but never any for sale these days. These are about 145 cm long. These are -- I guess -- the snowshoe equivalent of the Siberian "snowshoe ski" (about 140-150 cm long about 20 cm wide). Good float in deep snow and much handier in the woods than skis (my good skis are 240 cm long...).
The points make it easy to "aim" them in dense brush.
