Imagine, if you would, Nick Cave performing a cover of Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah, in that inimitable it's all much, much worse than you think it is vocal styling that Nick has..

Well, that was my first Violent Femmes. I hadn't expected to like it, but I did. I don't get the "cold, long-planned murder" angle though. Seems like a fairly straightforward anti-Armageddon song — the tradition emerged in the 1950s, but can certainly accommodate a wide range of material.
