Okay, about the iPod.
The iPod has been a remarkably effective device at making me utterly sick of music I like. These days it pretty much sits next to the computer, charging. It's possible I don't have enough music. It's a 4GB Mini, and utterly scraping the bottom of the barrel of my fully-mp3'd collection for anything in which I'm even vaguely interested, I can get maybe 2.5-3GB on it. So I'm in the market for new music. Tell me what to listen to. I discovered
freezepop via
jwgh, and that was a blast and a half.
deirdremoon has loaded me down with an intriguing list to start with, kindly allowing for our somewhat disparate tastes. I'm even willing to take another swing at Fiona Apple -- 'Criminal' is an amazing song, so I'm willing to grit my teeth and look past the Horribly Pretentious Child factor that practically oozes off her every album.
So! Control my musical direction! Tell me what to listen to! Unless you're
haineux, because you'll just link me to the bananaphone swf again and we can't be having with that.
What do I like?
Crunchy stuff:
NIN (not the 8 minute long mopey instrumental with a few harpsichord notes in the background crap, the good NIN)
The Offspring (it's loud and competent. Not amazing, but it gets the job done)
The Hives (See Offspring)
Linkin Park (I'm not proud of it, but there you go)
The Bloodhound Gang (the amazing lyrical gymnastics are enthralling)
Evanescence
Garbage (There's at least five songs by them I absolutely love, why don't I own a single album by them?)
Swing:
Cherry Poppin' Daddies
Atomic Fireballs (why do some of my most loved bands only have one or two albums out and then die?)
Squirrel Nut Zippers (I've cooled on them recently)
Ska:
Dance Hall Crashers (good stuff)
Folk:
Floor Creak (as with Atomic Fireballs, one album is all there is, waah)
Iris DeMent (Infamous Angel is the album that can convince even the most rabid country-hater that country can be good)
The Deeply Shameful Guilty Pleasures:
Kelly Clarkson ('Since You've Been Gone' is bouncy.)
Avril Lavigne ('My Happy Ending' is adequate)
Sheryl Crow (I'll put up with a lot of stupid for 'My Favorite Mistake')
The Less Shameful Guilty Pleasures I Have To Wait For
amywithani To Leave The House To Play:
Sarah MacLachlan ('Fallen' in particular, though 'Adia' is unlistenable garbage)
Anna Nalick (Yes, 'Breathe' is a very nice single, but I'm ready for another song by her now)
