I got a chance to see Choke when it screened in NYC back in June. The movie is great(!) and indeed more faithful than Fight Club.
There are a few major/minor points taken out, and some of the events are shown out of sequence, but that's usually true with any book turned movie project. The very end was also changed, but I liked the result wayyy better than I did the changing of Fight Club.
ya I get what you guys mean esp since I've heard alot of good things from people who went to see it. but still..intelligent young!Victor and the hint that Ida actually gave birth to him, well or at least had a husband, was a bit of a "WTF?! that's totally OOC" moment for me. :P
i saw it. it's nothing more than a homogenized version of a terrific book. it's awful. it's sad that clark gregg is so painfully average, because he had great source material, a great cinematographer (that for some reason couldn't get the sound guy to keep the boom out of the shots), and a terrific composer (whose score is rarely used). not even a great cast is able to save this film from being anything more than a completely empty experience. i don't care whether it's "faithful" to the book in content. the main issue is that it tries to "act" like the book without understanding the book. it's like an idiot read choke, missed the point, and then brought his completely basic, empty interpretation to a movie screen. plus, without giving anything away, there's a change to paige's character that, as far as i'm concerned, almost ruins the entire fucking thing. clark gregg tried explaining why he made this change at the screening i was at. and his answer did nothing more than confirm he just "doesn't get it." don't see this movie.
Well, damnit. That disappoints me. If she makes the change that I think (but hope you're not) referring to I'm going to be quite pissed. We'll have to wait and see I guess.
yeah... that's strange that he mentions his father. I guess Jesus is not his father in the movie. maybe it was too offensive for the movie? I don't know, i've seen many clips from this movie but i'm very curious to see the whole thing.
