That depends. Do you want to continue to draw commissions for people? I know a lot of artists have gone to Tumblr and seem to be doing very well there, but as a non-Tumblr-ite, I can't really verify that.

Tumblr is great for broadcasting, but it's terrible for finding anything later. And there's little open discussion.

I totally agree about the discussion part. It's part of the reason I haven't left LJ/DW.

I'd say so. It's a decent place to be discovered, in the sense of people looking around for new art and artists. And there's no expenditure involved, just as with my 500px presence, though I do pay for Flickr. (And LJ, for that matter)

It'd be a load of work, but you might consider something like the "free icon days" Djinni used to run, too - as you demonstrate, they've gotten everywhere. =:) He did seem able to gather a matter of hundreds by way of tips, too - no fortune, certainly, but it surely helped make that investment of time worthwhile, even aside from seeing the work crop up everywhere on LJ.
