From the other side of the door, Maya rolled over irritably in bed, pulling down the blankets over her head only slightly. She forced herself to sit up, rubbing at her tired eyes.

Oh... she fell asleep again. She didn't intend to, especially not after the conversation earlier. Maya looked sideways and noticed the other bed was vacant. Apparently she was the only one in the room at the moment, in which case Maya thought it as a good thing-- if that stubbornhead Dias was going to continue being so, then she'd much rather NOT be around!

It took her a moment for it to dawn upon her who was knocking on the door. "O-Oh! Nick!" She stumbled out of the bed to make sure there wasn't anything around to leave her in an embarassing situation. "You can come in!"

Phoenix opened the door--huh, it was already unlocked-- and stepped inside the room. "Sorry, did I wake you up?" he asked Maya, noticing how tired she looked. At least she wasn't zombie-like anymore, though.

"Nah, don't worry about it," she assured with a hand gesture. "I 'prolly needed to start waking up anyway. You know, early to bed, early to rise... I'd be slacking off if I didn't!"

"Nobody exactly went to bed early, though." Phoenix said to her, though it mostly just seemed like he was thinking out loud. "How has your spirit medium training been going, anyway?" he asked her.

He wanted to ask her about how she got to the city, the kidnapping and all that, but those questions could wait for later.

"Very smoothly!" Maya replied cheerfully. "I'm still nowhere near being as good as Mia was, but I think I'm making some definite progress. And guess what! I've finally found a waterfall up in the mountains!"

"That's good to hear!" Phoenix said. It was also good to see that she was much happier than she was when she left just a few months before.

Wait, a waterfall...?

Oh, that's right. Maya had told him once before that she needed to 'brave the elements' for her spirit medium training... Though he was tempted to ask how the fire part of the whole ordeal would work, he didn't. "Sounds like a really convenient way to catch a cold."

"Well, I certainly didn't!" Maya puffed out her cheeks and crossed her arms, though it was slightly obvious that she was lying. After turning her head away (and catching a glimpse of what had been Dias's bed the previous night), her pouty expression softened into a more serious one and looked back up at Phoenix. "Speaking of," Maya started quietly. "About my training. Something happened earlier this morning, Nick..."

"Eh?" Phoenix blinked. That was a rather sudden change in emotion. "What happened? Not something bad, I hope...?"

"No, just... wierd," she said. Maya made her way towards the end of what was Dias's bed, making odd waving gestures at the area. "A few hours ago I woke up, and I saw a spirit here, but that other guy that was with me didn't. I never summoned anything." She bit at her lip, looking at Phoenix oddly. "I didn't even know I could do that. It was, well... I dunno. It's just bothering me a lot now."

Phoenix took a few steps forward and crossed his arms, looking at the spot for a few seconds, and then back at Maya. "Well, you are a spirit medium and all... maybe it's normal?" Not that he knew much at all about being able to see spirits, of course. "Or maybe it's just this city..."
