He had never been the type to have nightmares. Weird dreams, sure...but nothing like the dreams he had been having the last few nights. Nothing like this
( ... )
Yuna heard her name. The sound of his voice woke her and for a moment she didn't respond. But then it sank in that he was there, right beside her. Blinking as she wiped away her tears, she rolled over so she could see him. It looked like he'd had something similar.
"Tidus?" she murmured, reaching a hand up to his cheek. "Did you have a bad dream, too?"
It seemed everyone was having them lately and she didn't like that. She wanted that to end.
"Yeah." he said, nodding just a little. "It...I don't think I'm going to go back to sleep for awhile."
Right now, that was all he could say. He didn't want to talk about it, because he didn't want to think about it anymore. The whole thing felt so weird. It was just a dream, right? But that didn't explain why he was so shaken up by it - why that nightmare had felt so real.
But right now, he probably couldn't explain much of anything. The best thing to do was stay awake. Stay with Yuna, until they had both calmed down.
"Me, either," Yuna admitted softly. She was torn. Part of her didn't want to talk about it because it was too hard, but if she couldn't be honest with Tidus, then who could she be honest with?
"Even if it... was close to memories, it was still just a dream."
That was the important part. Memories, dreams... they were part of the past. They weren't the reality of that moment. Tidus was her reality now, one of the only parts that made this city bearable.
"We're wide awake now, right?" he replied, doing his best to force a smile. "Even if they're weird, dreams aren't that big of a deal." Of course, those words were ironic for more then one reason. He wasn't exactly shrugging off the nightmare, either, even though he probably should have been. He wanted to, anyway.
Not to mention that the dream was more then just weird. Like Yuna said, it was close to memories...a little too close for comfort.
"Guess I'm the last one who should be saying that, though, huh?" he joked, trying to laugh at least a little on top of his already-forced smile. Maybe that's all they needed to shake this off - a good joke or two.

If only that was easier to believe.
