Gwen is still wishing that she could have gone after her son alone, but she also still knows that she couldn't have done the best of jobs, not compared to Flonne in this case... Still...

She sits on the edge of the bed, hands wrung together in her worry. At the knock, her head jerks up. Laharl. She takes in a breath, and even though she isn't sure what to expect, she knows that she really needs to give Flonne those cooking lessons sometime.

"Come in."

She's there. It took him a moment to force himself to move, but he did, turning for a moment to close the door behind him. Taking a moment to remember to breath, he slowly glanced over his shoulder at her, then approached his mother on the bed.

"...M-Mom... I..." he began, trying to find the words. Laharl thought he'd known, but he couldn't remember them now. He couldn't even manage to look at her, having only glanced up briefly, before settling his gaze on his bare toes.

"S...Sorry," he finally choked out. It was a word he avoided, but he couldn't see any way around it tonight. He'd upset her, then run off and undoubtedly worried her. He actually felt the urge to apologize.

She didn't quite know him well enough that the apology was hard to get from him, but she did know about how many other demons saw it, and came to the conclusion that it must be similar for Laharl.

She reaches out to him, taking his hands in both of hers, and smiles. "It's alright, Laharl," she replies softly, trying to meet his eyes. "I was just worried," she continues, confirming one of his thoughts.

That's all it had taken? Just like that, she was okay with it all? It was hard for him to understand, except that this was his mother he was talking to. If anyone could forgive on a drop of a hat, besides Flonne, it'd be her.

He only faintly glanced at her before his gaze settled back on the floor again, eyes hidden by his long bangs. "I-it's just... I'm not nice. I'm not kind. I'm mean, selfish and cruel, and I like being that way! I-I'm not anything you ever wanted me to be and probably won't ever will be," he tried to explain to her, attempting to pull his hands from hers. It had been pretty apparent he wasn't about to change since even an attempt to keep himself somewhat checked had gotten blown apart pretty quick. "Heh... I'm just going to have to be a big disappointment when it comes to that."

She frowns as he goes on, and not for the first time she wonders just what he's missed happen in his life. Both him and even Vyers had been vague, and she hadn't fully pressed, the issue too hard on all of them. How did he come to start thinking this way? It... It surely couldn't have been Krichevskoy? No, she wasn't going to believe that.

"Laharl that isn't true. Why - how could you ever think something like that?" she whispers.
