There were many things in the world Yorda did not understand, and the Master was very much among them. For all that he frightened her sometimes, with his temper and the general feeling of wrongness about him, the princess could not help but feel as though he needed someone, anyone. He seemed very much alone in the world and the absolute last thing Yorda would do was leave him without someone to turn to.

And when she felt the Master return her embrace, her only response was to move closer, stroking his hair as a mother might do with a child.
