Meg caught the pillow with a chuckle of amusement, swinging her hip out to prop it up under her arm. "That's good enough for me, then. I'll go see if I can actually buy it...and then I'm thinking lunch. You in?"

The question came so suddenly and naturally that she didn't even catch herself until it was too late. She wasn't really in the habit of making friends, or more accurately, people weren't in the habit of befriending her. But as she turned to hide the sudden glimmer of self-doubt she was sure showed in her eyes, Meg mused that maybe it wouldn't be a disaster. Heading to the counter, she smiled wryly to herself. I really am an idiot. Didn't people always disappoint you in the end?
