He could try. But Saïx was bound and determined to get to the bottom of things and if he had to drag things bodily out of that lighter mood to do it, then so be it. But he'd let Axel have his belief that things were going to be calm, for now.

"Does it matter?"

A shrug. "It's just so rare to see the castle caretaker out and about, mingling with the commonfolk," Which, of course, he knew meant that Saïx had a purpose for being out here. Everything he did had a purpose, and these days... it was usually on the sinister side of things.

Saïx would grant that it was rare. He had better things to do then play nursemaid to the people coming in and out of the city, not to mention he'd never really liked the secrecy involved in cultivating alliances. Not for the lies, mind. Those he rather liked. But the smiling and pretending to care? Those he could do without.

"Are we saying you count as common, now?"

There's a momentary scowl at that. Of course he was far from common himself, but he chalked it up to Saïx... just being Saïx. And so, he wouldn't dignify it with the response VII was surely seeking. Truth be told, he just wanted to be out of this situation. He had more important things to concern himself with, rather than the art of the lineface.

"Why, Saïx. Are you saying you came out all this way, just to talk to little ol' me?"

Not in so many words, and he certainly wasn't about to say so to Axel's face. The intricate balance in their game of power wouldn't let him. And so he quite simply wouldn't. If Axel couldn't guess by now, he was under no obligation to tell him.

"Shouldn't you know how this works by now?"
