Since the last temple... Jecht had remained relatively quiet. Perhaps that was one way of knowing something was truly bothering him, though he'd deny it until the end of time. He noted that Yuna seemed a little more somber as well. Suddenly, coaxing her into coming along with them, something he wondered if he should have maybe -- encouraged a little less -- brought on an overwhelming sense of guilt. He frowned as she spoke but -- he certainly wasn't the type to go on prying, either.

He touched the Save Sphere at the end of the hallway, all of this feeling like a bad déjà vu. And the fact that they still hadn't found Braska on the way... was definitely upsetting.

"Yeah," he agreed, "almost there." He paused in his tracks, and brought a hand up to his neck, leaning his head from side to side as though to crack it. A bit of a nervous habit... "Y'know, if -- you guys don't wanna go. Now's the time to decide."

They were lucky to only have one pilgrimage worth of memories of this place. A selfish thought, Auron knew, but it was the truth. Every step they had taken in Zanarkand brought with it a memory, a talk with Braska or Jecht, Tidus or Yuna. And now he walked with both Yuna and Jecht. The past and present combined.

He had noticed the silence that hung over them all on the way here, a heavy weight on their shoulders. There had been no need to say anything then. He had been with them both on the journey here.

And yet experience could not prevent hesitation. Auron stared up at the dome, lost in his thoughts, a part of him deep down fearing the memories held within--what would show, what they would see. All these years and he still couldn't shake the feelings of guilt. But that excused nothing. "You know we can't," he said, glancing over at Jecht. "Not now." They had come too far.

But what Auron didn't know was that Yuna had more memories than just that one trip. She could still see the tourists climbing the hill where Tidus had stood, or Isaaru in the dome, Uncle Cid making the whole place a tourist's trap, Rikku telling him off about it, and a lot of other less pleasant ones. Yuna knew what this place was supposed to look like, whether she wanted it to or not ( ... )

He did know it. There wasn't any going back from here. There was a tingle in his fingertips. Anxiety, was it? Nah. He brushed it off, forming a fist to crack the knuckles.

When Yuna spoke, he turned abruptly, losing himself in thought for a moment. Braska. Were you smiling too, back then? Knowing her words were for encouragement, he turned forward again, a grin spreading across his lips. "Let's go."

A brief smile, hidden by his collar, ended up appearing on Auron's face at the memory. Smiling... It was something difficult to do even now, even moreso when facing memories impossible to smile at. The smile fell again and Auron stared ahead at their goal. Jecht would have to be the one to do the smiling for the both of them. Auron just... didn't have the strength.

He nodded once and followed behind Yuna in silence.
