Mrs. Potts was situated on a table for the moment, watching nervously as the Master paced a hole in the wooden floor. She knew he was worried that this dinner with Belle wouldn't go well, but she had faith in him, more than he had in himself.
"Calm yourself, Master," she soothed, trying to use the familiar sound of her voice to ease his fears. "She'll be along very shortly."
From his spot atop the dinner table, Lumiere watched the beast pace across the room, a smile plastered across his waxy face. To watch his master pace was nothing new, the beast often found pacing to keep his temper at bay but tonight, tonight was different. It was not his temper which he was struggling with, it was his nerves. How nervous he was, fearful of the slightest imperfection. This was a completely other side of the prince they had raised, a side Lumiere could not recall seeing since last the queen had been there. Leave it to a girl to get him nervous. He chuckled softly and lit the fellow candelabra resting beside him. If this kept up, perhaps even he would begin to feel anxious and Cogsworth probably bonkers if he had to rebutton the Beast’s shirt for the umpteenth time
( ... )
Cogsworth had stationed himself in the corner of the room, standing upright and unusually nervous himself. He didn't think he would have reason to be nervous, after-all he was already human- but with the Master in that form pacing back and forth reminded of a certain dinner in the past. Everything would be fine, everything would be fine... Oh he hoped it would be fine. And really, if he had to keep re-buttoning that darned vest!
"Tonight will go smoothly, Master, but please remember that you must keep your temper if you do not want to scare Belle off." He knew that the girl has a stubborn side from previous experience and he most certainly knew that it could peeve the Master and his spoilt attitude...
The attempts from his servants to calm his nerves only served to make them worse at first, but Besat knew that each of them in turn was right. And it didn't help him at all.
"But...what if she doesn't like it? What if something goes wrong, and she leaves? What if..." He paused, and his whole body drooped slowly before he looked back up at his three servants, head, shoulders, and tail all hung low. "What if...I scare her?" The sadness in his eyes at the very prospect was plain, and his body made it all the more clear.
If this dinner didn't go well...Beast would be heartbroken.
Mrs. Potts was just happy her fellows were trying as hard to help as she was, though Cogsworth did get a bit of a pointed look at the last part of his statement.
"Now, now, sir," she spoke up stoutly, bouncing once so that her lid flipped up, spun around, and landed loudly to accentuate her words. "If you go in thinking like that, it'll be lost before it's started. Have confidence in yourself! Be kind and gentle. If she didn't believe you have it in you, she wouldn't have agreed to come in the first place."
She just had to hope the Master's nerves wouldn't get the better of him. He'd learned so much already about being kind and gentle. Now he just had to remember everything. She had faith he could make it and she was trying her best to tell him as much.
