Great gambler or not, Setzer's first choice wasn't the right one. A kindly old lady - and you can read that as belligerent old hag, if you want - told him in no uncertain terms that no one named 'Soma' was in residence, and furthermore, would the Outsider -please- remove himself from her lawn, posthaste ( ... )

Well, no one could win every game. Admittedly Setzer didn't often find himself faced with bitter old ladies, but no matter. He simply acted as he would have finding himself faced with any person he'd mistakenly bothered, and so with a half-bow and his best contrite expression, he apoligized for having disturbed her before getting off her lawn with as much haste as he could without outright fleeing.

Now she was a piece of work and no mistake. But at least it didn't look like his luck would offer up another sour note and he nodded at Soma's question. "You would presume correctly, and since I was in the area, I thought I'd try my luck and save a bit of time. Although I fear I may have just bought you her undying enmity."

It wasn't quite the first meeting he'd hoped for either, but fate did have a maddening way of tossing the strangest things in one's way.

Soma shrugged a little and glanced towards her door. "Some people live to be angry. Even in a place like this, I suppose there have to be a few of her kind." He gave the gambler a scant bow - a habit acquired from his friend and her grandfather - and then gestured in the direction of the aforementioned cafe. "The place I was talking about on the journals is just over there. Kind of expensive, but I have deep pockets ( ... )

Possession, was it? It was a rather odd topic to start with, but every story had to start somewhere. Besides, it made for a promising story. In order for someone to be possessed there also needed to by someone to be the possessor, and that could be a story in it's own right.

"I'm willing to take a gamble on that," Setzer answered with a grin over his own mug. It might not be similar to the tales of his own world, but he'd had more than enough of that sort of excitement for the time being. It was all well and good to ride the thrill of gambling with one's own life, but after everything was said and done it wasn't something that could be looked back on forever. Not without it faded into a sort of 'glad I'm not there anymore' sort of feeling.

"I haven't personally seen much, though I've heard both of the standard methods as well as the use of a Slave Crown." That last being something he couldn't really forgive the Empire for having had cause to build in the first place. Something like that could only bode ill.

Soma fought back an urge to laugh. "Standard methods, huh? Well, it may be common enough where you're from, but it almost never happens in my world." He sobered quickly as he considered where to begin his tale. "I guess my story starts about a thousand years ago with a man named Mathias Cronqvist. He was a master alchemist, but he was also a very sick man who could barely leave his own home. Near the end of his life, he sent his friend into a castle - the home of a powerful vampire lord - with the knowledge that this man's lady love had been taken by the vampire. That man's name was Leon Belmont ( ... )
