Vyers' excitement is mixed with dread as he approaches the gate, and there are many times where he has simply stopped in his tracks and nearly turned around to go straight back to the apartment. She is here again, a fact that makes him completely overjoyed and terrified at the same time, but she doesn't recognize him at all, which makes the situation extremely awkward ( ... )

Gwen turns when she hears his familiar voice, ready to scold him on how he acted before her "silent treatment", but then she sees his eyes and she holds it back. He was not so well, was he?

She smiles. "You did, true to your word."

That smile... How he has missed seeing that smile. It suits her perfectly--it always has. A little more happiness reaches his eyes and before he can stop himself, he wags his finger with a wink. "But of course," he practically sings. "I would not lie to such a pretty face."

He only realizes what he has said after he says it and with a faint blush and cough, he turns his gaze elsewhere. "F, Forgive me. I imagine that was out of line." She is married, after all. To the one who is both the luckiest and unluckiest man.

Is it odd to be jealous of oneself?

Well. She was going to give him the benefit of the doubt for his early comment, but now she frowns. She was married and she would serve her king until the end of time, and then some. If only Vyers would come out with the truth and face the consequences... she would be serving at his side, instead of having this gaping distance between them.

"Yes," she answers, a little testily, "it was."

He can't help but wince a bit at her tone, and he has to fight hard to resist the urge to curl up somewhere for awhile. He knows he should be more careful with his words, but it's just so difficult. "I know not whether this is out of line as well, but if you need a place to stay, you may stay with me? Laharl and Miss Flonne should be coming to stay when they return. Space is, ah, rather limited at the moment, but you are welcome to take my room if you wish."
