Some weeks had passed before Scar began to explore the newest "world" in this most interesting of places. "Spira," he'd heard it called over the journals. Its landscape was breathtaking, glimmering branches of some strange wood surrounded him as he stepped through the door. He would have to thank that boy some day for finding the purpose of those glowing spheres in the white hallways, they really did make this traveling between "floors" much, much easier.

Very strange creatures and sounds inhabited the wood, though by now Scar was accustomed to the unfamiliarity of each new place he found. Some of the creatures seemed to be ready to attack him, though with his size he drove them away with only a growl. If there were more powerful monsters here, they lay quiet, perhaps stalking other prey--or stalking him.

He picked out a human's scent from all the new ones. It would be interesting to watch how a human handled so many new things at once. He hadn't been given a chance to observe one from afar yet, and the opportunity was

It turns out that a few of the wasps had noticed Link's presence, and even though he hadn't done anything to anger them, they came buzzing his way, trying to sting him. Despite looking like they had just crawled up from the bowels of Hell, they didn't last for long though, as Link was easily able to block they're attacks with his shield and then slice them apart with his sword. There were a few close calls, as the stingers were quite long, but Link got away from the fight without getting hurt. Like in Hyrule, the monsters seemed to dissolve, though here, they turned into a bright yellow dust almost. Link watched the yellow stuff disappear into the air, then continued his exploration.

A grin broke across Scar's face as the human fought off the large wasps. He was courageous, that much was certain. He seemed to be strong, too, though...the Heartless would be the real test of that. Just to have a much more decent gauge of the boy's power, Scar summoned only a few Shadows at first.

Without warning, Link's own shadow began to writhe and crawl, a dark substance bubbling to the surface from some unseen well underground. The formless mass of darkness grew heads, then arms and legs. Creatures with glowing yellow eyes dragged themselves up from the pool, clawing their way into the shimmering light of the crystal wood. They shuffled back and forth around the human for a moment, before one leapt toward him without warning, while the others fell back into the ground, nothing but shadows flying along the forest floor.

Well, this was certainly something Link hadn't expected. He backed up as he saw his own shadow act on his own, his first thought being that it was his dark self, even though he had defeated it while he had been in the Water Temple. He raised his shield, and was both slightly relieved and confused when the form the shadow took wasn't his own.

Link tried to back himself against a tree to make sure that all his adversaries were in front of him. The shadow that leapt towards him caught him off guard however, and he was just barely able to cut its attack short with a swing of his sword.

The only thing Link could make these things out to be were the 'heartless' that Sheik had mentioned the last time they spoke. Judging by the one he had obliterated, they weren't very strong, but he knew he'd have trouble with them if they came in larger numbers.

Three other Shadows leaped for the human. Suddenly, they were all in sync. One dove directly at his shield, one at his sword, and the third was only a step behind each one. More pulled themselves up from the shadows, forming a circle around the human.

Above and behind them, much smaller Heartless, shaped like blue, red, and yellow bells, appeared from portals, floating around and making chimes with their movements. For now, they did nothing, simply hovering in the air, but something in their agitated chiming was decidedly threatening.
