Mao grumbled to himself. It wasn't his fault Beryl wasn't here. And it wasn't like he wasn't going to keep up his part of the deal, anyway. Kept Beryl out of his hair for awhile (though it was more than a little odd to not have her here butting into anything... he wasn't sure how he felt about it). And what if he needed that staff later on? It wasn't like there weren't a bunch of enemies to fight around here.
And just what were she and Almaz doing? He saw that blush on the ex-Fake Hero's face. Ugh, they weren't going to start gushing all over one another, were they?
"You'd better not. There's enough trouble in this place to worry about without slaves going missing," he muttered. He could have sworn he read something somewhere about someone performing experiments on people, too. Dammit, he was the only one allowed to experiment on people here! At least unless he got a look at some of the results or got to participate

"Sir Mao," Sapphire's voice was stern, "You should believe us. We promised we'd always be with you." She took no time to crack her knuckles; her body stood straight as she pounded her fist together. "Do I have to remind you? Maybe you bumped your head here."
Of course, Sapphire truly didn't mean to use force to remind Mao... if she didn't need to. ♥ As a demon, she expected a few quirks here and there from her friend, but to question their loyalty was a bit too much.
"N-now, Princess, don't do anything rash." Almaz meekly raised his hands in front of him, stepping in between the two. Surely there had to be a perfectly reasonable explanation for why there was a one month gap between them... as unreasonable as that itself sounded.
"I'm pretty sure we were all there," Almaz answered. "You were leading us to a different part of the school before I ended up here." The gap in time made absolutely no sense, but Mao sounded serious, so Almaz couldn't pass it off as a joke. When he had arrived at Paixao, Tidus had mentioned that people were sometimes taken from different times, but wasn't this a little different?
Then again, if that was true, couldn't their current situation be possible as well? It was a mess trying to think too deeply about it. Almaz settled on making sure they were on the same page, first--at least that they were from the same point in time. "... Everyone at the Evil Academy was having their things stolen, right?" he asked warily.
"Oi, I didn't hit my head on anything!" And he didn't need her to remind him of that. They were his slaves, bound to him forever. But with all the idiots in here who seemed to have a weird obsession with kidnapping people, he wasn't about to take any chances.
Mao listened quietly as Almaz stepped in, nodding once he had finished. "Yeah. We were continuing our search for that legendary Overlord." At least it sounded like they were on the same page. It still didn't explain the missing month, but it was better than nothing. If only he could figure out how it had happened... Some sort of time travel? That could be interesting.
Whatever it was, Sapphire smiled. It really didn't matter in the end as long as they were all together. Of course, her heart yearned for Lady Beryl to appear... but that seemed a little selfish. They were brought here against their will, that was not something she wished on someone as adorable as her little lady.
"Say, do you think this is the legendary Overlord's plan?" She curiously tilted her head at Mao, "Are we part of a grand scheme of things now? I really hope that means I get to beat the ever living stuffings out of someone soon! ♥"
She paused for a moment to clasp her hands together and sigh dreamily about it. The thought of the battlefield, how it made her very happy! At that moment, a thought crossed her mind, "You know..."
The princess looked around, it was rather interesting how much they stood out. "Did you notice this is some sort of human world? It's a little weird, too..."
