Phoenix finished off his sake and motioned to the bartender for another glass. He didn't think he'd get drunk that quickly, but he didn't particularly care at the moment.

"What kinda dangerous place is this, anyways? Yeesh, someone randomly kidnappin' a seventeen year old girl..." He took another sip as soon as he received his second glass and looked over at the lighter-haired man. "What're you smirkin' about?"

Miles glanced over to his friend at the bar and replied plainly, "Your tolerance level." He took another sip of his whiskey and rested his chin on the palm of his hand. "Though I do have to wonder what you'd be like with a microphone right about now. I've heard stories about your karaoke, Phoenix."

He chuckled. He could start to feel that, warm, tipsy feeling. Maya was kidnapped? Oh, well... the booze would help him forget for a while.

"Yeah? From who?" Phoenix asked as he rested his elbows on the bar. "I'll have you know, Miles, that I'm quite the karaoke superstar."

He took another sip and laughed a little. "But, y'know... not."

Miles chuckled again as he pushed his drink towards his dark-haired friend. "Butz told me of your karaoke escapades on your 21st birthday. Quite an amusing bedtime story."

He leaned forward on the bar, sighing as he lazily rested his chin on the palm of his hand.

"You know," he said quietly. "When I went to go live with some other relatives... after... D-6... they tried to get me into those sorts of things. Dance, choir, art. Children need an appreciation for finer things, that's what they told me. I never really was good at any of them." He chuckled sheepishly, motioning for another drink. The bill would be a bit higher than his liking, but he didn't really mind.

Ah, yes. Phoenix could (not-so) clearly remember his 21st birthday. The very next morning, he swore he would never, ever challenge Larry to a drinking game again.

"'Children need an appreciation for finer things'? Bah... Kids should just sit around and play video games while they still can." he said, conveniently leaving out the fact that he still played video games himself in his free time.

"I dunno, though... for some reason it seemed like you shoulda been into that kinda stuff back then." he said with a slight shrug.

Miles chuckled at Phoenix and said, "Video games? I never really was into that stuff when I was younger." He neglected to mention that he was really rather bad at them. Of course, Phoenix should've known that from when they had gone to arcades and Edgeworth had managed to lose every single game he tried his hand at. It was... definately discouraging for him to try and pick up a game when he wasn't forced into it.

And did he really seem like he was that into the arts?

"Really? What made you think that?" he replied, raising his eyebrows in slight surprise.

Phoenix shrugged again, sipping his drink. "I dunno. You were never really into sports or anything, and you were always more, y'know... serious than Larry and I were. Stuff like that just seemed to... suit you, I guess?"

Miles furrowed his brow and finished his second whiskey.

"What an odd way to think about it," Miles said, motioning for a third drink. The warm feeling in the his chest was becoming more apparent with each drink; Miles wasn't the type of man who laughed, cried, or acted very extreme when he got drunk--if anything, he was only more willing to talk. Well, with people that he could stand, anyway.

"Though I suppose I did always enjoy playing piano." He sat back, looking over at Phoenix and gave the other man a smile. "I do enjoy breeding dogs, though. What about you?"

"Me? Well... I was an art student for a while before I became a law student, but I guess I never really got into it."

Phoenix didn't really remember ever being so... calm when he was drinking. Even in this state he thought it was a little odd, but then again the circumstances were different. "I kind of like photography, though."

The circumstances for Miles were a bit different as well--there was another person here. And he was actually speaking to them. Sure, when he frequented bars in the past, he'd been approached by women looking to flirt, and he'd always turned them away. Women just... didn't interest him at this point in his life. They were too much trouble.

"Photography?" he echoed. "What were your subjects?"

Miles sat back in his chair and tugged at his cravat. The child he had spoken to... Roxas... was correct in his assumtion. This damn thing could get uncomfortable at times.

Well, he thought. It's not like he had a reputation to uphold here. He'd already left his jacket in the hotel room anyway. He tugged at the fabric and untucked it from his shirt, taking it off and putting it on the counter.
