He didn't have to wait long. Jafar had been waiting, perusing the network and making a mental list of probable candidates to breach the wall of thorns. Those most eager, in his opinion, were least likely to succeed, and it was doubtful that those most likely to get through the wall would bost of their intentions in a public forum. If all else failed, it did provide a low level of entertainment.
So he was not at all surprised to see a figure he did not recognize appear within the wall. The cloak was a nice touch. It was a few minutes before Jafar left City Hall, approaching the figure from behind.
Ah, the welcome party had arrived. He hadn't expected to have to wait too long, not with a wall like the one that had been raised around city hall. Something of the sort to keep out those who weren't intended to be there, no doubt. Not that that had stopped him of course, but that was a minor detail at best.
"Good evening," he answered politely, turning to look at the person who had greeted him. The motion was as controlled as he kept his temper - a slow motion that implied that he was neither bothered by someone having come up behind nor afraid of what that unknown person would do. He was here to learn what he could, and not to destroy parts of the city in his rage. Therefore, he would give this stranger as little as he could get away with.
It seemed it was up to Jafar to initiate conversation, insomuch as any exchange between himself and the cloaked figure could be called "conversation." Fortunately for Jafar, he was adept at playing the proverbial game. All that remained to be seen was this figure's ability to do the same.
"I believe congratulations are in order," he started, gesturing towards the wall of thorns. "After all, it's not every day someone manages a visit, especially without an invitation."
Ah yes. The wall that he had conveniently been able to bypass. But if the other man hadn't seen his arrival, he was hardly going to mention just how he'd done. He might need to return later; something he would hardly be able to do if someone found a way to keep portals from being opened within the confines of the wall.
"An impressive piece of work," he answered, glancing at the wall. Or at least, the hood of his coat turned in that direction for a moment, which presumably meant he was glancing at it. "Even more so for something that sprung up so quickly."
"Thank you." It didn't mean anything coming from Jafar, but it was better than admitting he had not been the one behind the wall of thorns, so to speak. Why let the figure think different? "It is, isn't it."
No need for Jafar to admire the wall - after all, he'd seen it dozens of times before. Instead, he watched the figure, waiting for him to make the next move.
