Although Lara'd told him that she was also a pretty bad egg. He wasn't going to back down - no way, no how - but he'd keep an eye on her in case she pulled anything funny.
It took him until he reached the gate - a gate - what gate was it anyways? - to realize that not only did he not know which gate was the Niflheim gate, but he also had no idea what this Larxene person looked like. Her picture wasn't on the journals - it always showed up as a big heart or something. Oops.
Well, he'd just wing it. That always worked, right?
He blew past the gate guard, glancing around. There - someone was out of the line, leaning against the dome, looking bored. That had to be it. He'd gotten pretty lucky for a first try.
He skidded to a stop beside her. "You must be Larxene. Ready to run?" He sure was.

"I am, and I've been ready~," she purred. "How does once around the domes sound? It'll be a nice, quick race."
One that she wasn't prepared to lose. If she couldn't outrun him she could certainly throw in a bit of teleportation. After all, that was one of her talents, and what was a race if all of ones talent wasn't put into the attempt to win?

Oh well, Sonic decided, he'd make the best of it. No harm in a little showing off in the meantime. He veered off towards the gate, easily running up the side of the dome and over the gate in a neat arc before coming back towards Larxene, never missing a step. It wasn't as good as the loop-the-loops he was used to, but it'd work.
That was when he heard the crackle and veered sharply away from Larxene, leaving a good two feet between them. "Man, warn a guy when ya do that!" he called to her. He couldn't help but grin a bit despite the obvious danger - she'd stepped it up, and it was time for him to do the same. He began to pull ahead of her, not enough to leave a large gap but enough so she could see he was in the lead.

She disappeared from sight, only to reappear a split second later beside Sonic, and then again a bit ahead of him.
And then she kept going, half running, half warping past the second gate.

Wait. She wasn't cheating, was she? Oh, lame.
Whether she was cheating or not, Sonic wasn't about to lose. He poured on the speed, catching up with her as they rounded the second gate and bothering with fancy tricks this time. Once again he pulled ahead of her, figuring he'd keep a close eye on her to see how she kept getting in front of him. If she was cheating...well, they'd just see.

Maybe she should have asked for two or three laps.
