Character(s): Furude Rika, Alice Content: The Two decide to eat at the cafe, and discussion begins Setting: Cafe Ersesat. Time: Afternoon Warnings: None
Rika had spent the short walk looking around at everything. She had never seen a place like Paixao before; it was nothing like Hinamizawa. Perhaps it was free from the disease that plagued her hometown? It was definitely far larger; she hoped she wouldn't get herself too lost.
She considered the menu for a moment. Wine would have been nice, but she did not want to look out of place, and so she selected again. "Apple juice~!"
She smiled, and looked up at Alice. "There are lots of people who look the same here."
It was odd. Perhaps Alice knew something about it?
Alice nodded and have the waiter the menu, waiting until he walked away. "Yes, there are. Those are the people who live here normally. The ones that look different, such as you or I, we're the ones that have been dragged here from our own worlds. You'll find there's quite a lot of us here, and much to get used to. For one thing, their currency are item that give off a shine, and in my world would normally not be things like leaves. For another, those that inhabit this world seem completely oblivious to the things that actually go on here. You're better off joining a network of some of the people already bright here, as I've done."
The water came back, and Alice thanked him before taking a careful sip of her chocolate. She normally didn't enjoy sweets, but this would be an exception today. "Have you talked to anyone else here?"
Such a strange place... Then the money literally grew on trees here. At least getting food and a place to stay would not be difficult. Rika nodded as Alice spoke, taking occasional sips of juice.
"Only you and Ivan," Rika said. "And the guard, but he really didn't tell me much."
So there were many people being dragged away from their own worlds? She was almost relieved; it was not simply a product of her own cycle. That would make things a bit more complicated, then.
Alice took a polite sip of the hot chocolate and place it back gently on the table. "Don't expect any of the inhabitants of Paixao to be of any help to you. Most of the time they act like mindless zombies. It reminds me all too much of the insane children I knew back home. If you're going to get any information out of anyone, ask those that have been made to come here."
Alice handed her some of the leaves. "You'll need these when you go to a lodging or food shop that requires compensation. Also, if you are a fighter, I suggest you train with your weapon. There's no telling what strange creatures you might meet."
Insane children? Rika was tempted to ask Alice about her home, but decided against it. Hinamizawa wasn't exactly normal, either, and the topic sounded like one Alice did not want to dwell on. It was best to deal with the present, at any rate.
She accepted the leaves, still marveling that this was what passed for money. "Thank you. I've never fought anything, though..."
She had used a butcher's knife once before, but that was on herself. Weapons were not her specialty.
Alice smiled. "Forgive me. I suppose my mind was occupied by certain unhappy things of my world. But I can assure you, such things were a long time ago. I am quite pleased to be here, even if I do have to keep my wits about me here as well as I would in my old world, you know. One must be quick, and certainly poke their heads about other people's journals."
Alice nodded. "In that case, you may need to learn. There are a variety of unsavory creatures here. I can help you there, but of course we'll have to use my less damaging weapons."
Alice smiled and took a sip of the hot chocolate then a bit of the biscuit. "Oatmeal and sweet. Excellent. Goes very good with this."
Rika nodded. No world was perfect, after all; some far less than others. There were few who knew that better than Rika, although her appearance did not reveal this fact.
"Thank you," Rika said, in reference to weapons. "I'd rather not use them... But if I have to..."
She was letting her childlike image fade just a bit in favor of more frank discussion. She was no stranger to violence, at the least. Perhaps that would prove useful here.
And then, a bit of worry that had been constantly eating at her: "Do you think we'll be able to go home eventually?"
"You are quite welcome," Alice replied, smoothing the girl's hair down. "It would be smart to know a little bit about weaponry, if only to have you properly school for an actual combat situation. You never know when that will come about, you know?"
Alice lay back a moment, reclining. She wondered about this girl. She looked a bit too prim and proper to be trying for something like this, that was for sure. She could only hope that she was wilder than she looked.
"That remains to be seen," Alice replied. "In fact, you can more or less count that as a maybe. Now then, what shall you be doing next?"
Rika smiled a little, and nodded. She would just have to make her way home however she could--and she would. For now... She tilted her head, thinking.
"I should find somewhere to stay," Rika said finally; it wouldn't do for her to be sleeping on the streets every night, especially with money so readily available.
She finished the rest of her apple juice; she never had been one to take little sips of anything. "Then I could try to learn about weapons."
Alice nodded. "Not too far from here there is a hotel called O Pastor. It' snot the best hotel in the world, but it will do for the time being. As I said, its up to you if you want to go this alone. I wouldn't suggest it if you're new here though. Take your time, talk, live with a few, then I believe striking out on your own will be fine. At the very least, learn to defend yourself."
Alice finished her hot chocolate and left a few leaves for the bill. "Of course, that is your choice. You can strike it out on your own if you wish. I just happened to fall upon pleasant company when I arrived. Sadly, said company is no longer here, but I believe it helps to start off with someone. It's your call."
