It had been several hours now since Jintetsu had met the red-haired ronin. In that time, he'd made it to what seemed to be the only shop in the whole city, picked up what he needed, and set out back toward the gate as quickly as possible. But when he'd asked a local for the fastest route, they'd pointed him here, to the station. Heading north when he needed to go south was counterintuitive to say the least, but if it got him out of here ( ... )

He watched the swordsman take a seat not too far away from where he was, and noted, absently, that he hadn't said a word. Or maybe he had, and the sword was doing all the talking for him? Fai tapped a finger against his chin and hmmm'ed thoughtfully.
"Fuuuu~ that must be very useful!" he said, in a singsong voice. "I wish I had a sword that could talk."
Not that he'd ever use it in battle. But he imagined he'd have a field day using its "abilities" on a certain Big Puppy.

"Do I know you?" he asked suspiciously. Hopefully the guy would decide he had the wrong drifter.

It hadn't been that difficult to figure out that Jintetsu wasn't doing the talking. The way Fai saw it, he had a face made of steel, and steel wasn't the least bit malleable. If he was right, then his mouth couldn't move - and even if he tried, his words would come out as a bunch of mumbled, incoherent mmmf's.
"Well, you don't yet, Swordie," he said with a smile. "But you could!"
The mage plopped himself down beside Jintetsu and examined his weapon carefully.
"Now, does Swordie have a mind of his own?" In a complete invasion of personal space, Fai reached over and tapped the hilt three times. "Or are you talking through him?"

Before he could push the subject, he felt the now-familiar rumble of an oncoming train underneath his feet. It was still too far away to be seen, but it could be heard and felt. The mage looked up expectantly, wondering if it would take him to one of the three gates he had yet to check. Unfortunately, it was going back in the direction from which he had just come.
"Is that your train?" he asked, though he didn't seem to care. Fai just had a knack for drawing (or rather, forcing) conversation out of the most antisocial people in any world.

Although he didn't know quite what Fai's question meant, he turned to take a look behind him, just in time to see the train come barrelling noisily out of the tunnel. So that's what had caused the rumbling sound... although he was at a bit of a loss as to what "that" was. Yet another weird cog to this weird city, it looked like. He really should have just walked back to the gate; this place was putting him more on edge by the minute, although you wouldn't know it just looking at his face.
Only after a few seconds did he remember what Fai had asked him. "No, it's not," he said. He had no intention of going anywhere near that thing without knowing what it was.

But that didn't keep Fai from noticing his reaction to the oncoming train. Granted, they did look rather strange, and they were a bit too loud for his tastes, but he ultimately decided to just go with the flow. Jintetsu, on the other hand, didn't seem to want to touch it with a ten foot pole. Fai arched one brow and thought about it for a second. For now, he wouldn't worry. He'd just chalk it up to the other man being annoyed by the sound.
"Where are you going, then?" he offered, thinking it would be a funny little coincidence if they were headed in the same direction.
Well... funny for him, anyway. And rather unfortunate for Jintetsu.

Fai watched the train stop, wait for passengers, and eventually leave. His eyes slowly became unfocused, and as his mind drifted elsewhere he added: "Something's keeping everyone here. I'm not sure what. Or why, you know... but it is."
After a few minutes of staring, he looked up again and smiled. "That's what I gather, anyway!"
He slid away from his seat and made a show of stretching out as he watched the train pull out of view. Without even thinking much of it, he looked back and forth to see if another might be coming. "Well, at least whoever thought this place up was nice enough to add trains. It sure makes running around in circles much faster, right?"
