There is a very well written article in the New York Times about the correct use of a semicolon in the New York Subway "service placard". You can tell that the journalist, Sam Roberts, was really enjoying stretching his writing muscles. Wish you could see more of the placard in the photo though. I highly suggest reading this cute, short article
