I am pretty sure I have told you this before, but I'll tell you again. You take some amazing photos. I especially like the bugs in this batch.

Thank you very much!

I really love taking photos and trying to make them interesting and pretty to others. The bugs were a collaboration with kragen and I. He also took the photos of the lichen as well.

There are some damn interesting bugs down here and I expect more as we get closer to the Amazon. I'm both intrigued and horrified at the same time.

My brother Auros e-mailed me this entry because I studied entomology and he thought I'd appreciate your insect photos. I do. The first one is a clearwing moth, whose resemblance to a bumblebee tends to discourage predators. Clearwings belong to the hawk moth/sphinx moth family, Sphingidae, and include the North American hummingbird moth. The second photo is a true bug of some sort (order Heteroptera); it might belong to the family Coreidae, a family of largish, plant-feeding bugs which includes squash bugs and leaf-footed bugs, but it's difficult to tell from that angle.

Thanks for the information. I have lots more photos of that insect, and many others on my flickr stream.
