Some days, things aren’t so much what they seem, but more what they are. It’s a paradox - Kirito gives up on logic and relies on the thought that whatever he thinks is going to be proved wrong against a set form of chaos. Hakuei.
It’s like this:
He’s sleeping in a tangle of limbs and a dash of color against the dark wood of Kirito’s living room floor. There’s day-old makeup smeared thick against the creases of his eyelids; a chair’s overturned in the corner.
Kirito’s standing in the doorway with his hands clenched tight and his eyes closed, he’s got a blanket curled around his arm and the thought in his head of why are you doing this? And it’s been two seconds too long and he’s still standing there, and he thinks: because I care.
Hakuei’s passed out in his house - Hakuei’s the antonym to sanity. But Kirito’s draping a comforter over that thin body and thinking, shit - because I care.
